Something Sundays: Paseo Arts Festival, Kabaret Falschtanz, and [Title of Show]
For this week’s Something Sunday I’m highlighting a few events.
For starters, we have the 2010 Paseo Arts Festival where all types of art and all mediums are represented. You can expect booths and galleries selling ceramic dishes, hand-made jewelry, art-you-can-wear, sculpturals, and paintings and photography of every style. The festival will hold two stages showcasing musicians and entertainers. The Paseo Restaurants and galleries on the street will be open during festival hours.
The festival takes place on Memorial Day Weekend, May 29, 30, and 31. The festival hours will be Saturday & Sunday from 10am to 8:00pm, with music until 11pm and Monday from 10am to 6pm, with music until 7:00pm. The Paseo is located between NW 30th and Dewey and N.W. 28th and Walker in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
However, if you want something to do TONIGHT then check out Kabaret Falschtanz featuring The MiDolls and Scott Hynes at Maker’s Piano Bar & Cigar Lounge in Bricktown. The pre-show is at 7:45 and the main show starts at 8:00. It’s sure to be an amazing night of dance and improv! There’s no cover charge, but you’ll need to be 21+ to enter.
On the performing arts stage, I recommend watching Ghostlight Theatre Club present [title of show]. Described by Charles Isherwood of the NY Times as “a zesty, sweet, Broadway-trivia-riddled musical about the anxiety and excitement of creating a zesty, sweet, Broadway-trivia-riddled musical about the anxiety and excitement of creating a…”, [title of show] is a musical about two nobodies in New York named Hunter and Jeff who decide to write a completely original musical. The play follows Hunter, Jeff, and their friends Susan and Heidi, as they struggle through edits, rewrites, rehearsals, and ultimately submitting their show to the New York Musical Theatre Festival. “A postmodern homage to the grand tradition of backstage musicals like Babes in Arms, Kiss Me, Kate and A Chorus Line”, [title of show] is an insider’s look at modern musical theatre, the creation of art, and the struggles faced by artists in releasing their creation to the world.
The show runs from May 28-29 and June 3-5 and 10-12. To get tickets, visit ghostlighttheatreclub.com
As a reminder, our contest is still open. Your chances of winning something are pretty good, so give us some suggestions. I realize that might be a bit hard seeing that many of you come here for suggestions, so just tell us some places you like around Oklahoma.
[title of show] at Ghostlight runs through June 12.
