Deluxe Indie Craft Bazaar

WHERE: Centennial Building at the State Fairgrounds at NW 10th and May in Oklahoma City
WHEN: Saturday, December 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
ADMISSION: Free
For a one-stop-shop of truly unique gifts, the Deluxe Indie Craft Bazaar returns this Saturday packed with about 70 different artists.
“Deluxe is different because it is 100% handmade,” said Deluxe’s co-director, Sara Cowan. “Many craft fairs allow vendors who sell items made in factories and imported crafts. We ensure that the sellers are also the makers.”
Deluxe promises to provide an entertaining atmosphere with live demonstrations, music, free craft activities for kids and even Roller Derby girls skating around. There will also be various crafts and demonstrations in which children and adults can participate, including a screen printing opportunity with Better Way Screenprinting. However, Deluxe isn’t all shopping and entertainment.
“There are a lot of community groups, nonprofits and social justice organizations involved in Deluxe as well,” said Cowan. “They recruit volunteers, provide information about their services and even collect goods at Deluxe.”

The variety of items to buy at Deluxe is unparalleled. “I like to list the Shawnee-based maker of Mexican wrestling masks because it’s such an unexpected niche, but there are more traditional crafts like soap, clothing, jewelry, toys, paper goods and visual art.”

Many of Deluxe’s artists are returning for this year’s bazaar, including the ethereal pastoral photographer Samantha Lamb, iconic sock monkey maker Adrian Mix of Fried Okra, and folk artist Heather Sleightholm of Audrey Eclectic. Some new artists Cowan mentioned were Vernon Deas of GroupFly clothing, Rachel Hanan of Tail Feathers Diapers and Mo Tipton of The Mouse Market. Their blog over at deluxeok.net has daily artist profiles.
Deluxe’s onstage lineup will feature a live broadcast from 105.3 The Spy, a performance from the Oklahoma Children’s Acting Guild, Kris Nickell, Skating Polly, Balcum Rancum Puppetry, and the Sugar Free Allstars.
Doors will open Saturday morning at 11 at Centennial Building at the State Fairgrounds at NW 10th and May. Admission is free so you can save your money for the amazing art inside.
