Today’s performing arts Question and Answer session is with Lyric Theatre’s Artistic Director, Michael Baron on their latest production, Boeing Boeing.

How do you describe Boeing Boeing to your friends?
A very funny sex comedy from the 1960′s with fun period “jet set” costumes and a very hip bachelor pad set. Like a funny version of Mad Men.

Why should one see it?
It’s one of the classic comedies of the theatre that is not only hysterically funny but stylish as well.

What scenes do the actors enjoy?
There are lots of scenes where the flight attendants are all in the apartment at the same time without knowing it and it’s a blast to see the guys figure out how to keep them from running into each other. There are lots of slamming doors and ridiculous schemes.

What make’s Lyric’s version special?
We’ve got a supremely funny group of actors from NYC and OKC working together. They work so well together that everyone gets their own comedic moments to shine. And the set is full of actual crazy period 1960′s furniture. Everyone that has seen the show wishes the on-stage apartment was their own.

What was the most challenging aspect you had in the production?
The timing and laughs of the show is very fast – so getting the dialogue and action onstage to be in sync was challenging.

Any other comments?
It’s been great seeing adults of different generations come and enjoy this zany show. If you need a night full of laughs at seeing what it was like in the dating scene back in the 1960′s and how little it has changed today – then I would highly recommend checking out the hi-jinks of BOEING BOEING.
