Experimental Hip Hop band, The Fervent Route, speaks with me in this Norman Music Festival performer question and answer session. The Fervent Route will perform at the Bud Light Depot Stage on Friday, April 28, 2017, at 8:30 pm. Since this is the festival’s tenth year, here are ten questions to get to know them.

1. To get people to know you, how would you describe yourself and your music?
The Fervent Route is an experimental Hip Hop band that uses genres such as: Soul, Rock, R&B, and Indie electronica to create a new experience for music listeners.

2. What song would you like a person who hasn’t heard your music listen to first?
L.O.V.E, would be a great song to capture our definitive sound and meaning and a great song to dance/bob your head to as well.

3. What’s your song writing process?
We come together collectively with concepts and ideas, creating riffs or musical hooks that would become segments. We then introduce our individual/independent creativity that complements those segments to initially create the full song.

4. What are your thoughts on the Norman Music Festival?
This year’s Norman Music Fest is going to be an absolute blast, with the local and national recording acts that they have performing; we’re definitely going to see another year of excitement and growth. We are so stoked to assist with the growth!

5. In general, what inspires you?
Our challenges inspire us, in every occasion or event that tries to knock us down; we use that to motivate us and enhance our craft (sometimes while in the challenge). Also, being able to see that inspiration has allowed us as band to create a positive impact on people.

6. You’ve just been offered an all expenses paid trip. Where would you go?
We would most likely go to Nepal, it’s known for being the land of festivals (over 50 festivals).
It would be great to experience the elaborate festivities and our lyricist (Original Flow) has a following out there also.

7. Any plans while you’re in the Norman area?
We’ll be showing some love by checking some of our friends who are also performing (Jabee, Sativa Prophets, Linka, S.Reidy, O.D.D); not to mention Oddisee. We’ll be traveling down main street with Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat live with our drummer and his social media segment entitled “Soulful Seeks”.

8. Anything else you want the public to know about you?
The Fervent Route will be performing at The Root, April 21st, in the Paseo Arts District. The event is called “Back to my Roots”, it will feature local artists (both performing and visual) and performers from Los Angeles.

9. What do you think should be the Ninth Wonder of the World?
Our 9th wonder of the world would be unity, it’s a monumental structure that hasn’t been deemed comparable to current events that are taking place in this era.

10. What was the most extreme adventure you’ve had?
Doing a video shoot in Downtown OKC in the middle of the night, on its windiest of nights, and trying to find the perfect location to film. You learn a lot about your crew, your city, and how you would survive a zombie apocalypse in a inner city location.

The tenth Norman Music Festival is on April 27, 28, and 29, 2017. Read more interviews from performers in the festival, present and past, here.
