Our Comedy Around OKC episode comes around to showcasing some classic stand-up comedy with Thursday’s Don’t Suck at the 51st Speakeasy. Along with Uncovering Oklahoma’s interview with Brad Chad Porter on the showcase are comedy bits from Sam Higgs, Spencer Hicks, and of course Brad himself. Best of all: the show is free, but you 21 or older to enter.

The last Sunday of every month at Maker’s Straight Up, the Kabaret Falschtanz puts on a show of dance, comedy, music, and theatre that’s sexy and a little bit naughty. Our Jessica Alcorn interviews director Lynna Schneider along with other members of Kabaret Falschtanz.

Their next show is this Sunday, July 25. I highly recommend checking out the show.

Uncovering Oklahoma (finally) visits Michael Murphy’s Dueling Piano Bar in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district for our Comedy Around OKC episode! Our new guest host, Jessica Alcorn (who is filling in for Sasha), interviews General Manger, Wayne Potter, along with musicians Stephen M. Winter and Lee Huff to talk about the show. Bonus fact: we had originally planned to do a segment on Michael Murphy’s for our first episode, however, timing for an interview with the owner never worked out. It was for the best though because we did a better job on the video now then what we would have done back then. I did manage to use one quick shot of b-roll (it’s the clip of the girls singing on stage) from when I filmed some stuff on the place last year.

But wait! There’s more! This video features the premiere of Uncovering Oklahoma’s new title credit sequence!

OKC Improv is having two shows this Saturday. At 8pm Stillwater’s own Cueless will be returning to the OKC Improv stage followed by the impressive Villain: The Musical. Then at 10pm The MiDolls, Oklahoma’s first all-female improv group, continue their conquest of the world with a nun-themed show followed by a new Twinprov show called Rap-City, in which the Vrazel brothers merge story-telling with hip-hop beats.

Tickets for each performance are $10, cash at the door. Reservations are encouraged because they expect to sell out. Be sure to watch our video and check out the episode page for more details and pictures.

We still have more segments planned for our Mystical Journeys episode. We’re just working on two episodes at the same time because we are awesome!

Our seventh episode has started now with the release of our segment on Earth and Soul. Earth and Soul is metaphysical and magical supplies store in Sand Springs. Along with supplies and gifts, Earth and Soul is home to many gifted people to help give you answers about the past and future. Sasha Denkinska interviews owner of the shop, Rhonda Selig, and famous dream and tarot reader, Barbara Clark. Be sure to check out the Mystical Journeys episode page for more information and pictures.

There’s more to come for this episode, including a visit with a local ghost hunting group.

Today, I took a business trip (I totally get to say that now) to Norman. I took pictures from some of the past places we had visited as I plan to reformat all of the episode pages to match the style of our sixth episode. I also did some research for two of our upcoming episodes, one on art galleries and the other on the mystic and metaphysical realm. Stay tuned, especially if you want to watch our bloopers from our fashion episode.

Sorry it’s a day behind (okay, technically, it’s much later). I blame zombies. The Violet Avenue segment is fantastic so watch it! I have an interview for another shop planned for later on this week. Perhaps you’ll see our new title credit sequence then?

Uncovering Oklahoma visited the volunteered ran coffee shop, Second Wind, last Friday. Watch the video to see volunteer Josh explain Second Wind followed by interviews and clips of Sean Barker, Joe Hopkins, and John Calvin and the Tin Canyon Band.

However, as a special treat, I have two full length performances from the show Friday night. Watch Joe Hopkins play “Reaching” and Sean Barker play “Build It Up”.

As a reminder, Uncovering Oklahoma will be at the Holiday Music Jam in Tulsa this Friday so next week we’ll have videos from that adventure. Then the week after that we should have our sixth episode, which will focus on fashion shops, online for your viewing pleasure.

In Episode 5, we visit Kamp’s for Robotic Wednesdays, Groovy’s for some funky times, and Paradise City where they’re not responsible for one night stands. The episode runs at about 15 minutes. If you want to learn about some great places to dance in the city that are outside of the Bricktown area, this episode is for you. By the way, for this episode the bloopers play at the end during the credits.

Not only is Episode 5 finally online, but we now sport an awesome new look for the web site. Though, it’s what’s on the inside that really matters, right? So there’s also some new content in the Date Guide, which is now broken by cities and features suggestions for picnic spots. I also fixed some errors on the page for Episode 1. There are more sections in the works for the site. We are already working on our next episode, which is dedicated to the metro’s fashion shops.
