Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble
On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, Oklahoma City’s Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present the fifth concert of its 2017-18 season, “Old and New.” The “old” is Franz Schubert’s perennially-popular “Trout” quintet, written nearly 100 years ago when Schubert was only 22. The “new” is a World Premier performance of a striking work by Oklahoma City composer Samuel Magrill, commissioned by Brightmusic. The quartet by Saint-Saëns, falling somewhere in between, was the composer’s second and final foray into the genre.
The works on the program are:
Samuel Magrill, Five Bagatelles for Flute, Violin, Cello & Piano
Commissioned by Brightmusic for World Premier Performance
Camille Saint-Saëns, Piano Quartet No. 2 in B-flat major, op. 41 (for piano, violin, viola & cello)
Franz Schubert, Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 “The Trout” (for piano, violin, viola, cello & double bass)
The performance will take place at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 127 NW 7th Street (at Robinson). Individual concert admission is $20 per ticket. Children, students and active-duty military personnel are admitted free with ID. More information about this concert is available on Brightmusic’s website at http://www.brightmusic.org.
