Individual Artists of Oklahoma Reception
Join Individual Artists of Oklahoma on Friday, January 18, as IAO kicks off their 40th anniversary year with “One Man Group Show” from Norman-based artist Mat Reed.
In his own words, the artist explains “The title of the show is a self-acknowledgment of my tendency to move from, and between, one idea and the next; jumping between the representational and the abstract. Working in this way as opposed to the conventional mode of creating a body of work comprised of different solutions to, basically, a singular idea; leaves me open to follow a variety of visual ideas further without becoming completely tethered to one expression.”
Over time, some ideas and concerns started to recur, enough so, that they develop into patterns seen within the body of this work. Reed’s appreciation for the beauty in nature overlap and conflict with the impact society has on the environment, creating a struggle between representational landscapes and our relationship to them. Slowly the geometric shapes and divisions start to emerge as a simplified and abstracted form to embody many aspects of modern existence and our interactions with nature and culture.
The exhibit will be on display through February 10th
