RIVERSPORT Adventure Park’s second annual OKC Whitewater Festival is adding one-of-a-kind events including a BoaterX whitewater kayak race, Red Bull Pump Track World Championship qualifier and a fun event called Slalom Survivor. The two-day festival will be held May 19-20 in the OKC Boathouse District’s RIVERSPORT Rapids whitewater rafting and kayaking center.

“We’re kicking off RIVERSPORT’s whitewater season with a bang,” said Mike Knopp, Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation Executive Director. “Oklahoma City has never seen events like this before.”

BoaterX has whitewater kayakers launching off the RIVERSPORT Rapids bridge and dropping in the water 13 feet below. Participants race side-by-side through the channel, navigating gates, executing combat roles and elbowing their way to victory.

The Red Bull Pump Track World Championship U.S. Qualifier will determine which athletes will represent the U.S. in the finals in Switzerland in September. May 19 athletes from around the world, including India, Australia and Germany, will compete on the Velosolutions Pump Track next to RIVERSPORT Rapids. Anyone who would like to compete can register online. The top men and women at the OKC qualifier will advance to the Red Bull Pump Track World Championship Final with an all-expense paid trip.

Slalom Survivor is a whitewater kayaking competition courtesy of World Kayak, an organization dedicated to growing the sport of kayaking. This event brings together the technical aspects of slalom racing with a lighthearted format that will be as fun to watch as it will be to participate.

OKC’s whitewater celebration will also feature free whitewater kayaking clinics courtesy of Jackson Kayak, OKC Kayak and RIVERSPORT. Nationally-recognized paddlers Clay Wright and Colin Kemp will lead courses throughout the weekend. The clinic is open to novice and experienced kayakers.

RIVERSPORT Adventures will also be offering whitewater rafting, zip lining across the Oklahoma River and climbing on the SandRidge Sky Trail, as well as food from Big Water Grill.

To add to the excitement, RIVERSPORT is partnering with 9th Street Barking Lot and Country Roads to host a pet adoption on Saturday, May 19. at the McClendon Whitewater Center next to RIVERSPORT Rapids.

RIVERSPORT Adventures will be open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. For more information visit riversportokc.org or call (405) 552-4040.
