Violet Avenue Boutique
Next up in our fashion episode installment is the Violet Avenue Boutique in Norman’s Campus Corner. In the video Sasha interviews Becca Chansolme, the owner of Violet Avenue, as she talks about her affordable boutique and gives us a highlighted tour of some of her store’s items. Be sure to visit the Shades of Fashion episode page to see pictures and learn more information.
Sorry it’s a day behind (okay, technically, it’s much later). I blame zombies. The Violet Avenue segment is fantastic so watch it! I have an interview for another shop planned for later on this week. Perhaps you’ll see our new title credit sequence then?

Mister Rabbit
Instead of featuring a bunch of places in one video, for our Shades of Fashion episode we’re going to give each place their own video. To start, we’ve got the One-of-a-Kind vintage store, Mister Rabbit, in Oklahoma. Follow Sasha (not the white rabbit) as she takes a journey with Keri Marie through her store in Oklahoma City. Hop to the episode page for more information and pictures of our visit. There are even more pictures in our Facebook page.
Tomorrow: the release of our visit at Violet Avenue Boutique!
Later: the release of the Holiday Family Jam video!
Even Later: the release of a yet to be determined fashion store!

Improv Comedy Night
For this week’s featured item, I’m highlighting OKC Improv. Last night, Ali, Sasha, Whitney, and myself watched Everybody and Their Dog and Cueless perform at the Ghostlight Theatre Club (3110 N. Walker in OKC).
Every Saturday night OKC Improv hosts different comedy acts from across the state. Each show features two different troupes, with an intermission between them, and overall lasts for about two hours. Tickets are only $10 per person! Seating is limited, so I suggest you make reservations at their web site, okcimprov.com. There will be three more nights of shows on February 13, 20, and 27. It also appears they will do another run of shows in April.
While we were there, they made a special offer to catch the second 10 pm show at half cost, so we stayed. Comedian Brad Chad Porter and The Closers were just great as well. If you’re wondering, the groups do take audience suggestions at times. Of all us highly recommend you check out an OKC Improv show or two.

The crisp, clean and silky Ikana

This week’s Something Sunday features a more adult drink. Ikana is a crowd pleasing wine you can extract from Put A Cork In It, located along the canal in Bricktown. We interviewed the owner, Andrea Griggs, in our first episode. Although if you visit them now, you’ll see that the place has been remodeled a bit since our visit. I personally severed Ikana at the Uncovering Oklahoma preview party and it was a favorite among my guests.
Now, I’m not a fancy wine connoisseur, so I’ll just share Andrea’s description of their Ikana Rielsing. “Crisp, clean and silky in texture this off-dry Riesling has a golden hue and a floral aroma. It has hints of apple and peach and is delightfully refreshing.” Try a sample for yourself at Put A Cork In It. If you like it, buy a bottle. I heard there’s this romantic holiday coming up pretty soon, so this wine might be great for that day.

Something Sunday: Braum’s Milk

For this week’s Something Sunday, I’m cheating by ranting on about Braum’s milk. It’s awesome. Seriously, if you drink milk head to your nearest Braum’s store and get some unless you already have some in your fridge.
Why is it so good?
Well, several reasons. Braum’s has this unique vacuum processing system which removes a third of the water from the milk. This concentrates it thus giving it a better taste and making it healthier for you. They don’t inject their cows with hormones, such as rBGH, to stimulate milk production nor do they add antibiotics to their cow’s feed. On top of all that, the milk is produced in Oklahoma and according to their web site, the milk can come fresh from the cows and into their stores within 24 hours. This whole process makes their milk super fresh and it lasts much longer.
Also, I’m pretty sure that leprechauns are involved.

Anyway, that is a wrap for this week’s featured product. I need to find and “sample” some cookies with my Braum’s milk for next week’s article. Purely professionally speaking of course.

I’ve created a Facebook page as another option for everyone to stay connected with Uncovering Oklahoma. If you have a Facebook account, become a fan of our show. I already have pictures and videos of some of the places our travels have brought us. As the show grows, so will the content. I really don’t know what else to say. Just go check it out.

Oh, Snap(frames)!

Okay, today I’m starting a new weekly feature: Something Sundays. Every Sunday I’ll write an article about some awesome product or an eatable delight that you can find in Oklahoma. Of course, some items will Oklahoman made, but not everything, which leads me to this week’s featured item: the Snap Photo Frame Set.

During Christmas shopping, I stumbled upon this gem at Blue 7 (7518 N. May Ave. in Oklahoma City). Basically, there are nine small picture frames in the style of a Polaroid picture. There’s a slot on top to slide in a 3.5 by 3.5 inch picture. Included are some fake pictures in the frames, so you can easily take one of them out and use it as a guide to cut down a larger picture, such as I’ve done.

The frames can be placed in any crazy arrangement you can dream. You can even take a sharpie or dry erase pen and write on the bottom portion of the frame too. On the backside, there’s a hole where you put this tack in it and then pound it against the wall. The mounting hardware is included, but with only exactly one tack for each frame. Though, if you do lose one, you could get a nail and use one of the nail slots on the frame.

The frame set can be bought at Blue 7 for about $20. If you know of any other places to buy this frame set, drop a comment. If you have a suggestion for a future segment, send me a message. Add a bribe along with your message and there’s a greater chance I’ll feature it.
