Kabaret Falschtanz at Maker’s Straight Up
The last Sunday of every month at Maker’s Straight Up, the Kabaret Falschtanz puts on a show of dance, comedy, music, and theatre that’s sexy and a little bit naughty. Our Jessica Alcorn interviews director Lynna Schneider along with other members of Kabaret Falschtanz.

The Dueling Piano Bar
Uncovering Oklahoma (finally) visits Michael Murphy’s Dueling Piano Bar in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district for our Comedy Around OKC episode! Our new guest host, Jessica Alcorn (who is filling in for Sasha), interviews General Manger, Wayne Potter, along with musicians Stephen M. Winter and Lee Huff to talk about the show. Be sure to hit up the Comedy Around OKC episode page for more information and pictures. (I also updated that page, fixing some stuff on OKC Improv and added an album link.)
Bonus fact: we had originally planned to do a segment on Michael Murphy’s for our first episode, however, timing for an interview with the owner never worked out. It was for the best though because we did a better job on the video now then what we would have done back then. I did manage to use one quick shot of b-roll (it’s the clip of the girls singing on stage) from when I filmed some stuff on the place last year.

Monkeying Around

For this week’s Something Sundays I’m featuring the handmade stuffed monkeys from Pippin + Pearl inside Mister Rabbit (2411 N. Guernsey in Oklahoma City).

The monkeys are handmade here in Oklahoma by Adrian Mix. Each monkey has a different name, style, personality, and price (either $30 or $35). The name tag includes care instructions and date of birth. The monkeys are approximately 15″ long, from head to toe. They feature both machine and hand stitching. Although these are toys, they are not recommended for small children. Did I mention these are all handmade? Go check out the adorable monkeys for yourself.
On the subject of Pippin + Pearl, this Saturday, July 17th from 7 pm to 10 pm will be their first art show. Event details can be found here on Facebook.

Date Ideas, Improv, and Candy
Time for a mid-week update with some ideas for some fun stuff to do. For starters, the the main Date Guide page has been updated to include general date ideas.
Tomorrow, July 9, OKC Improv will bring a free show at The Boom! with two of the city’s best troupes, The MiDolls and Villain: The Musical. The MiDolls will be performing a Goddess-themes long-form set followed by the nefarious improv stylings of Villain: The Musical in which five skilled improvisers create a 45-minute musical right in front of your eyes where the villain is the hero. The show starts at 8 pm. The Boom is located at 2218 NW 39th St in Oklahoma City. If you need more details, hit up the Facebook event page.
The show from the improv troupe, The Ones Your Mother Warned You About, from June 26, 2010 Show at OKC Improv has been published, so watch the 32 minute show here. Great comedy to keep you busy until the next show.
This Saturday, July 10, is the Candy Basket’s 21st Birthday and they’re having a party with 21% off everything in the store. We featured this Norman candy shop in our fourth episode, so I highly recommend you visit them Saturday. Also Saturday night OKC Improv has two shows at Ghostlight Theatre Club featuring some troupes from out of state.
I will see you guys at The Boom! for the free show tomorrow.

Great Bowl of Fire and Improv

It’s the day you show your love for your country by blowing up a piece of it! (Yes, I stole that joke from the Simpsons.) Since it’s too late for me to talk about places to see fireworks, for this week’s Something Sundays I’m featuring the Jerry Lee Lewis “Great Bowl of Fire” drink from Michael Murphy’s Dueling Piano Bar. Located at 25 S. Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, the Dueling Piano Bar show consists of a few piano players who take the stage in rotations while performing a rip roaring, request driven show, that includes comedy and roasts of other guests friends all in a smoke free environment. I could go about the place, but I want to save that for our video segment that will be released soon.

The Great Bowl of Fire is their most popular 80 oz bucket drink, which are designed for 4 to 6 patrons. They do other flavors in the bucket including Long Island Ice Tea, margarita’s, and other specialty drinks. The cost is $24.
HOWEVER, Michael Murphy’s Dueling Piano Bar’s next day to be open is Thursday, so you will have to wait until then before you may tackle this massive drink with your friends. Mhahahaha! I’m so evil and speaking of being evil there’s a new Villain: The Musical full length performance out. Watch the show here on YouTube.

After taking some suggestions from the OKC Improv audience at Ghostlight Theatre Club, Villain: The Musical creates the completely improvised, completely evil musical that becomes: “The Villainous Machine of Sir Pistachio’s Gelato Shop.” This Saturday, June 26, 2010 show featured the vocal and improvisational talents of: Cristela Carrizales, Buck Vrazel, Clint Vrazel, and Stf Bidelspach, who also multitasked as the main musician (but not the sole musician this time!) of this epic musical show.
If that’s not enough improv for you, I also published Twinprov’s April 23, 2010 Show and Twinprov’s Rap City May 1, 2010 Show.
If you feel like such a sinner from watching these shows, then watch The MiDolls do their Nun archetype show here on YouTube. If you want to watch any of these improv videos later, you can find them archived on the Improv Troupes page. Enjoy the four full length improv shows!
