Ingrid’s Kitchen

Ingrid's Kitchen on UrbanspoonBefore visiting the Paseo District for the First Friday Art Walk, I finally made the time to eat at the German restaurant, Ingrid’s Kitchen (3701 North Youngs, Oklahoma City). I’ve heard good things about Ingrid’s from friends–such good things that on an invitation to a friend’s Octoberfest party, bringing food from Ingrid’s Kitchen was highly recommended and practically mandated. When I got to try Ingrid’s for myself, all I can best describe the restaurant as a German dive diner and delicious.

When we arrived, we looked at the menu before getting in line to place our order. The menu had standard deli sandwiches, soups, German lunchmeat sandwiches, bratwurst sausages, and salads along with daily specials. While in line, we were temped with savory baked goods such as cakes, pastries, brownies, and pies. Norman residents will compare the place to La Baguette on Main Street.

We ended up ordering dessert as an appetizer (which they do encourage). Both the pie and brownie we had were good.

While I’m not an aficionado of German food, I did enjoy the wiener schnitzel made with tender pork loin cutlet that was hand-breaded and grilled. The speciality plate also came with sauerkraut, red cabbage, german potato salad, and a slice of their fresh-baked bread (which they also sell loafs of in their bakery).

It’s easy to see why Ingrid’s Kitchen has been around for so long and featured on TV shows like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Be sure to take a look at (and don’t eat) their giant gingerbread house on display there.
