Forget get the eggnog and pour yourself some rum for the production team of Ghostlight’s original sketch comedy holiday variety show, Screw the Pass, Eggnog the Rum 5x: Drunk for Christmas, is here to talk about their upcoming show. Answering the Performing Arts questions is Emily Etherton, Lance Garrett, and Cristela Carrizales. Lance is director while and Cristela and Emily consider themselves co-curators. They both did a lot of the writing, but they’re not the only ones. The entire cast is involved in brainstorming, and the writing is done by a smaller handful of the team. As Emily put it, it’s a real ensemble effort.

What five words would you use to describe, Screw the Pass, Eggnog the Rum 5x: Drunk for Christmas?
Irreverent. Hilarious. Original. Sassy. Noggy. Rummy. Drunk. How many is that?

Screw the Pass, Eggnog the Rum 5x: Drunk for Christmas! posterNow, using more than five words, what’s it about?
Screw the Pass, Eggnog the Rum 5x: Drunk for Christmas is the fifth installment in Ghostlight’s series of irreverent, original sketch comedy holiday variety shows.

What was the biggest challenge with this production?
As is our tradition, Eggnog writers start meeting, brainstorming, and writing in October, but rehearsals don’t start until December. The biggest challenge is always creating the show in under six crazy rehearsals.

Why should one see it?
Because it combines all the love of the holiday season with all the sappy, overly-sweet materialistic ridiculousness of it and produces a fruitcake nuttier than your Great Aunt Mildred. And now with 5x the rum…just like your Great Aunt Mildred.

Why would one not want to see it?
One would not want to see it if one takes oneself and one’s holidays too seriously. One would also not want to see it if one was a stick-in-the-mud.

What scenes do the actors enjoy?
At the time of this writing, we’ve had zero rehearsals, so…you know…who knows?

Which of your actors can drink the most rum?
Emily. Hands down. Not even joking.

What Winter Fun will you partake in this season in Oklahoma?
Singing the BC Clark jingle often. And at the top of our lungs. And everywhere that’s inappropriate.

What is your favorite Christmas movie and why is it Die Hard?
It IS Die Hard! Like most Christmas movies, Die Hard has great holiday music, a bad guy who hates Christmas, and snow (bearer bonds floating down like snowflakes). What puts Die Hard over the top? ‘Splosions!

If you like holiday entertainment with a wink and a smile, a fifth of rum and a lot of laughter, you’ll love Screw the Pass, Eggnog the Rum 5x: Drunk for Christmas.

Anything else you want people to know?
If you like holiday entertainment with a wink and a smile, a fifth of rum and a lot of laughter, you’ll love Screw the Pass, Eggnog the Rum 5x: Drunk for Christmas. Cristela will wink and smile at you and Emily will drink the rum. That leaves you with the laughter.
