In this performer question and answer session, I speak with Cosmostanza, who will be performing a free show at the Norman Music Festival. Cosmostanza will perform at Fowler Toyota Main Stage on Saturday, April 25 at Noon. Since this is the eighth year for the festival, here are eight questions to get to know the performers.

1. For those unfamiliar, how would you describe yourself and your music?
Cosmostanza is a two piece noise / garage rock band from Oklahoma City. Most of the music we make are fast punk songs dealing with dumb feelings about life.

2. What song would like like a person who hasn’t heard your music listen to first?
I think a really good song to start out on is Avant-Garde form our EP CHAMPS. It is a great first song because it best shows what most of our music has stand for so far. Just really fun noisey / loud tunes that you can scream with us at shows.

3. What’s your song writing process?
It counts on the song really. Most of the songs we have written have been collaborative efforts between Raney and I from just playing around during our practices. We make a riff or have an idea for a chorus and we try to build songs around them. But some other songs, like Never Cool and You Make Things Fun, have been mostly written by myself alone and we make some small edits whenever we are playing it as a band.

4. What are your thoughts on the Norman Music Festival?
NMF is really amazing. I remember the first year I went to NMF was in 2011 when Peelander-Z and Ty Segall played. I was just so amazed that a cool festival like this could happen in Oklahoma, because this was before I was introduced to the local scene. Since 2013 we have gotten to play NMF and it has been an awesome experience each year. I think my favorite part is just hanging out at the festival and seeing all of my friend’s bands play. It is like a celebration of local music.

5. In general, what inspires you?
When it comes to writing music I am just inspired by my feelings at the time. If I was pissed off when writing a song you can tell. Lately with writing, certain experiences with people have been inspiring me. Personally, a lot of dumb things inspire me. Mostly anime and videogames as dorky as that sounds. I find myself obsessed and inspired by the environments and worlds from PS1 and N64 era video games.

6. You’ve just been offered an all expenses paid trip. Where would you go?
Ohhh thats a really tough question. I would probably go to London. Europe has been an area of the world I was never really interested in until lately. I want to be able to explore and enjoy the culture. Also the weather in London is right up my alley.

7. Any plans while you’re in the area?
I live in Oklahoma City so I go to Norman all the time. But I am excited to see all of my friends that live in Norman and hang out with them. Also Norman food is hella good so I’m excited to eat it all weekend. I will be hanging out a lot at the Dope Chapel as well.

8. Anything else you want the public to know about you?
Come hang with us at NMF!!! We are playing on Saturday at the Main Stage at noon and then at Dope Chapel later at the night at 11:40 pm for the Coffin Boner Showcase. Someone plz buy me one of those giant pineapple drinks they sell each year.

The eighth Norman Music Festival is from April 23-25, 2015. Read more interviews from performers in the festival, present and past, here.
