Next week, six of the most talented skating SONIC Carhops from around the country will descend on the SONIC Drive-In headquarters in Oklahoma City for the final stage of the 2015 SONIC Skate-Off competition, sponsored by long-time SONIC partners RC Sports® and Dr Pepper®. Finalists will compete for a chance to win cash prizes, new custom RC Sports skates and bragging rights for the next year.
The Skate-Off competition finals will take place outside the SONIC’s Bricktown headquarters located at 300 Johnny Bench Drive in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The space will be decked out with an obstacle course for each Carhop finalist to navigate on skates while carrying a fully loaded tray of SONIC favorites. The Oklahoma City community is encouraged to attend the festivities, and attendees will be eligible to win prizes from SONIC, Dr Pepper and RC Sports, including free swag, coupons, roller skates and more. In addition, the Honor Roll professional skating team – recently featured on “America’s Got Talent” – will be on site showing off their skills.
“The skating Carhop is an integral part of our drive-in heritage and image, and we like to encourage our modern-day Carhops to show off their skills and be recognized.”“The SONIC Skate-Off is a fun way for us to recognize some of our most talented skating Carhops,” said John Salama, vice president of training and education for SONIC. “The skating Carhop is an integral part of our drive-in heritage and image, and we like to encourage our modern-day Carhops to show off their skills and be recognized. The competition motivates employees and reminds our system of how fun and exciting the SONIC brand is.”
Throughout the summer months, thousands of eligible skating Carhops have a chance to submit two-minute video entries online. All video entries were evaluated by a panel of judges based on a variety of qualifications to determine the six highest-scoring finalists. Each finalist will travel to Oklahoma City for an all-expense-paid trip to the competition finals and an opportunity to meet and train with professional RC Sports skaters, win cash and snag free pairs of custom skates from RC Sports. All finalists will receive a pair of Dr Pepper skates in advance of the final competition. First place will receive $1,500, second place will receive $1,000 and third place will receive $500.
Following the competition, the finalists will travel to Kansas City, Mo., in September for SONIC’s National Convention, where the winners of the 2015 Skate-Off will be recognized on-stage in front of thousands of franchisees.
