New Latin American artist, Lincka, who will be performing a free show at the Norman Music Festival, speaks with me in this performer question and answer session. They will perform at the Brewhouse on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 6:00pm. Since this is the ninth year for the festival, here are nine questions to get to know them.

1. To get people to know you, how would you describe yourself and your music?
A sun bathed dream, with beach-flavored, catchy rhythms & riffs that take on an unexpected turn into the Latin World.

Or more simply put, have you ever taken a drink of horchata?

If so, that’s it right there.

2. What song would you like a person who hasn’t heard your music listen to first?
No Shoes, which is the first track on our EP. It’s about my childhood and in many ways about childhood in general. I think my fans get to know me a little better and I hope it helps get to know themselves just as well.

Check it out on 😉

3. What’s your song writing process?
[pullquote-right]”It is very important to collaborate with other artists who may wield different aesthetics but are just as committed to creating music.”[/pullquote-right]There’s no process really, at least not in the singular. Usually a random moment is involved. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a melody in my head, and hum it in my recorder and go back to sleep.

Which you would think going back to sleep would be for more rest but turns out to be for more inspiration. Hmm, maybe that’s why some people have called our stuff ‘dreamy’

Also, it is very important to collaborate with other artists who may wield different aesthetics but are just as committed to creating music. Which not only commands attention but also takes the inner child out of the audience and asks him, her, and all shades in between to groove. My band mates help me in this regard. They’re usually the ones writing the genius guitar riffs or dope drumming patterns which dare me to power up my lyrics and melodies.

4. What are your thoughts on the Norman Music Festival?
The Norman Music Festival does an amazing thing for musicians. Gives them an outlet to showcase their work to the world, but all in ONE night! It’s such a fun & exciting time. This is the 1st time we are performing and we are so happy to be a part of it.

5. In general, what inspires you?
My generation, but in many different ways. In specific in this on going political process. It’ll be the first time I can vote in the general election and it’s surprising how much I find myself and friends getting involved. My songs definitely have some underlining messages that you will have to take a look at my lyrics to understand. Also, I am a proud Latina so you can imagine that I have plenty of material to write about. My parents made me a strong girl that stands up for what she believes in.

6. You’ve just been offered an all expenses paid trip. Where would you go?
Any place Hayao Miyazaki creates… I shall go.

7. Any plans while you’re in the Norman area?
Play a killer set and make some new fans! Also I will be selling hard copies of my No Shoes EP, to any friends, family or fans at the end of my set. So stick around & maybe we can catch some other groovy shows together! 🎶

8. Anything else you want the public to know about you?
Yes, I have a Facebook page that you should all go check out and like, so you can get notifications of my upcoming shows. Just type in, ‘Lincka’ on the search bar & I should pop up. 👌🏼

9. What do you think should be the Ninth Wonder of the World?
My brother Dario’s beard.
