The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen is the latest story of a food truck evolving its success to add a brick-and-mortar location. Before I talk about their new location for those unfamiliar with them, the Hall’s Pizza Kitchen started as a family tradition where they made pizza on Saturday nights. A few years back, they started to share their family’s pizza with the masses in the form of a food truck, appearing at places such as Heard on Hurd, H&8th Night Market, and Bleu Garten. If you want, you can read more about their food truck story in this Q&A session I did with them.
I visited the Hall’s physical location yesterday for their soft opening event. I want to start off by saying that I have an affection toward hidden alley places and this place fits that love. They are tucked away by the corner of 9th and Hudson in Oklahoma City’s Midtown District. They’re next door to the newly opened escape room place, Baker Street Escapes, so you can have a date night playing a game and then get pizza afterward.
The Hall’s has three main areas: the main floor, interior second floor, and rooftop patio. The main dining hall has a counter for desserts on the go, a bar area that seats about seven, and gender neutral bathrooms. The downstairs has no TVs while the upstairs areas do, which I like about the place because sometimes you don’t want to be distracted by them and other times you want to watch a big sports game with friends. During my visit, I ate on the rooftop, being one of the first to do so. Despite being in an alley, there’s a nice view of Midtown. I was told that the sunsets up there are gorgeous with the light reflecting on the hospital.
While there I enjoyed a slice of Beat the Heat. This delicious pizza had whole milk mozzarella cheese, Parmigiano Reggiano, smoked chicken, roasted jalapeñons, bacon, cream cheese, and a drizzle of sriracha sauce. Since I’ve had their salted caramel chocolate chip cookies in the past, I tried their outrageous brownie this time. As a brownie connoisseur, it got my approval.
Having the space of a restaurant, the menu will expand to offer beer, tea, appetizers, and more pizza options.
The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen is scheduled to open to the public on Monday, May 15, 2017.
