On the opening day of the 2017 Oklahoma State Fair, I tried out some different foods, wandered around, and meet with eight different food vendors. Get hungry for the bigger, better, best Oklahoma State Fair.
Here’s a list of the new foods that debuted at the fair this year.
Red Beans & Rice On-A-Stick: Last year, La Gumbo Ya Ya brought their Red Beans & Rice. This year, they’ve added a Fair twist and put it on a stick.
Avocado Fries: Gringo’s is bringing an unlikely combination to the Oklahoma State Fair. You’ve probably never seen this before, and you sure won’t want to miss trying them!
Bacon Cheddar Meatloaf Cupcakes: Experience a cupcake like never before. The Sweet Shop is serving up meatloaf, topped with mashed potato icing and bacon & cheddar sprinkles – all in the shape of a cupcake!
Bacon-Wrapped Zucchini: Would it be The Bacon Habit if it wasn’t wrapped in bacon? They’re bringing fresh zucchini wrapped in smoked bacon and grilled to perfection.
Bacon-Wrapped Brussels Sprouts: And while you’re at The Bacon Habit, grab some bacon- wrapped Brussels Sprouts, topped with parmesan cheese and your choice of dressing.
Deep-Fried Pineapple Raisin Bread Pudding Bites: The Urb Express is putting a Fair-inspired twist on a classic. These delicious Deep-Fried Pineapple Raisin Bread Pudding Bites will be served with vanilla ice cream, fresh cut fruit, powdered sugar and homemade tequila sauce.
Mac-N-Cheese Burger: Layne Concessions is combining two of our favorite things: mac-n-cheese and delicious burgers. This combination cannot be missed!
Monte Cristo Crepe: Try out CoCo Flow’s fresh version of the classic crepe with ham, sharp white cheddar cheese, turkey, raspberry jam and Dijon mustard.
Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger: It wouldn’t be the Fair if there wasn’t a new twist on the burger bun. Enjoy a juicy bacon cheeseburger, with the added deliciousness of a pretzel bun – only at Sammy’s.
Pretzel Dog: Sammy’s is all about the pretzel this year. They’re serving up a juicy hotdog in a perfect pretzel bun.
Unicorn Crepe: CoCo Flow has done it again – enjoy this Rainbow Crepe filled with raspberry, Pop Rock mousse, fresh fruit and vanilla cream – all topped with a sweet piece of cotton candy.
This year’s exclusive sponsor of Food Row is the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma. They are running a campaign, entitled “It’s All About Love,” invites fairgoers to prevent diabetes as an act of love. They have a display at the north entrance to Food Row where fairgoers can take photos of one another as cartoon superheroes or on a roller coaster alongside smiling corndogs, funnel cakes, and other food items. Original artwork for the campaign was created by Bruce Plante, award-winning cartoonist for the Tulsa World. The campaign’s site includes advice for “snaccident” recovery, diabetes risk assessment tools, prevention tips, and more. Visitors are encouraged to share their “selfies” over social media with the hashtag #lovefoodrow.
The 2017 Oklahoma State Fair started September 14th and goes through the 24th.
