Welcome to the Monday Music Discovery playlist. On Mondays, when applicable, I’ll feature a mixtape of both new music video videos and singles of all genres of music by local bands in Oklahoma. If you’re interested in having your music video or new single highlighted, connect here.
Alone by J. Mitchell
Artist Statement: The single is just about being content with being alone until someone worthy comes along. So many people get into relationships of no substance out of fear of being alone, or allowing people who aren’t healthy for us stick around because we don’t want to be by ourselves. It took a lot of honesty and looking in the mirror for the song to come about. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do and find light within the message and melody. Thank you for listening.
Why I’m Single by Brent Giddens Band
Artist Statement: Brent Giddens Band is a five-piece band with a fiddle, a steel guitar, and amazing harmonies. Their single, “Why I’m single” off their 2018 album “Red Dirt Blues,” has caught some additional attention with a new music video. The Brent Giddens Band are known for their high energy and unforgettable live shows and they set out to capture that energy in their second music video. The video was filmed at the Historic Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Muskogee. We had the privilege of having Tyler Roberds of Roberds Productions shoot the video, and our drummer, Jason Salsman, did the editing.
Brent Giddens Band is the Premiere country/Red Dirt band in the area. Their high energy shows are a must-see, and dance floors are usually packed full. They are looking forward to announcing big things coming in 2018. You can follow along by checking out www.brentgiddens.com, or at their Facebook page.
Who Knows by The New Tribe
Artist Statement: Video for our first single “who knows” from the forthcoming LP ‘Step Outside’. Directed by Ethan Hoagland with Adam Sarmiento. Filmed on location in various spots in Oklahoma including the Wichita Mtns and Illinois River. We played with a narrative about the band depicting some kind of future post-apocalyptic shaman type dudes gathering for rituals and general tom-foolery.
