In this Artist Statement Minute, Caroline Cohenour and Kerri Shadid discuss their exhibition, Color Menagerie, at amshot.

Shadid, who uses marbled paper to create animal scenes and abstracts, is also a well know poet, writer, and performer.  Her work is often absurd or whimsical as well as playful.

Influenced by her study in California, Cohenour is best known for her colorful and evocative abstracts.  Layers of marks, numbers, symbols, and words give the viewer something new in each work.

According to the artists, the title of the show, Color Menagerie, hints toward the artistically expressed wildlife in Shadid’s marbling work and the visually striking array of shapes and symbols in Cohenour’s mixed-media pieces.

It might seem unusual for an IT company to be promoting local art and culture, but Michael C. Thomas, CEO of amshot said in a press release to Uncovering Oklahoma, “our organization is committed to combining art, fun and community service as a core part of our business.”

“The first exhibiTion in September 2018 featuring artist Sam Washburn was a big success, attended by more than 150 persons,” Thomas said.  The event benefited OKC Midtown Rotary’s community arts projects.
