Nick Midnight answers ten questions in this Norman Music Festival performer question and
1. To get people to know you, how would you describe yourself and your music?
Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I was a weirdo art kid who was obsessed with music, TV, and movies. Now, I am a singer, aspiring writer,
2. What song would you like a person who hasn’t heard your music listen to first?
For first time listeners, I would recommend checking out my song “Suburbs”. It’s a song about how growing up is hard. All of my songs are fire tho.
3. What’s your song writing process?
Usually when song writing, I will think of an idea that I want to turn into a song, then I will make some hot trash on GarageBand or Logic until my producer Captain Dave sends me a beat pack. Once I hear a beat I like, I’ll start freestyling/mumbling melodies to it until I create coherent lyrics. Then I piece the song together at the studio with the help of my engineer Tyler Garcia at 33rd Street Studios. Shoutout to the homies Captain Dave and Tyler Garcia.
4. What are your thoughts on the Norman Music Festival?
I think Norman Music Fest is an awesome way for Oklahoma peeps to check out great local talent. I also love the fact that it’s a free event. I really believe that music should be free. Of course money has to keep the whole cycle moving, but I really feel like music is what keeps us all alive. It’s like healthcare, it should be free.
5. In general, what inspires you?
As far as artists that inspire me, I would list Childish Gambino, Tyler the Creator, Janelle Monae, Prince, John Mayer, Father John Misty, and Frank Ocean. I could go on but those are the first ones that come to mind. As far as what inspires me in general, I would say meaningful conversation, good movies and TV, my family, and my friends. Oh, and Disney movies. The old ones.
6. You’ve just been offered an all expenses paid trip. Where would you go?
I would probably go to Europe first, then Australia. I’ve never travelled outside the country so honestly anywhere that’s not America would be pretty sweet. Honestly a tropical island getaway sounds dope. Like one where they massage you and you drink out of a coconut.
7. Any plans while you’re in the Norman area?
I plan on checking out other artists like my homies in Rose Gold, Jabee, and Josh Sallee. I also plan on catching my best bud DJ Brae’s DJ set at Kong’s Tavern Thursday night after I perform.
8. What else you want the public to know about you?
I want the public to know that I’m still
9. What do you think should be the Twelfth Wonder of the World?
Mario’s NY Style Pizzeria in Tulsa. The best pizza you will ever have.
10. What was the most extreme adventure you’ve had?
Once when I was at the lake with my friends I dabbed so hard that I fell off the boat. True story.
