In this episode of Uncovering Oklahoma, we start with a preview tour of the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City before its opening to the public. Then we travel to Yukon to visit The Flower Ship Winery, a winery that’s also a pizzeria along Route 66. Finally, we visit the Halal Pakistani Restaurant, Sizzle N Spice Kebab Grill in Oklahoma City.
The 175,000 square foot First Americans Museum is located at 659 First Americans Boulevard in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and showcases state-of-the-art exhibitions in First American history, culture, and art; live public and educational programs; a full-service restaurant and an express café offering unique Native-inspired cuisine; and a museum store featuring exclusive items created by premiere First American artists that can only be found at the museum. There is also an amazing selection of one-of-a-kind jewelry, basketry, pottery, textiles, and Native inspired products.
In Yukon, I visited The Flower Ship Winery, a winery that’s also a pizzeria along Route 66. Owner, Bret Kappus, has been around the wine industry since a young age following his grandfather. The winery does features Sweets and Dries, Roses, Reds, and Whites. The Dries are for your moderate to entry-level drinker and the Sweets are more entry level to moderate too, Light Sweet, but not Heavy Sweet. On the pizza front, they do a New York Style crust and offer a cauliflower crust for people that want a gluten-free.
Finally, we visit the Halal Pakistani Restaurant, Sizzle N Spice Kebab Grill in Oklahoma City. Mohammad Qazi and Tanya Sheikh started their restaurant as a food truck, but still serve the food of the street vendors of Pakistan. Their personal favorite dish and best seller is the Royal Tandoori Platter.
