Oklahoma Women Impacting STEM and Entrepreneurship Conference

Oklahoma Women Impacting STEM and Entrepreneurship Conference, an interdisciplinary event showcasing women leaders in STEM and entrepreneurship in Oklahoma, is set for Aug. 23 at the Hyatt Regency Downtown in Tulsa. The conference will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a reception to follow from 5 to 7 p.m. at Welltown Brewing. The conference will foster new collaborations, spark new ideas, encourage further research, and increase innovation among Oklahoma researchers and entrepreneurs.

Conference keynote speakers include: Cindy Ng, head of Marketing for the Drone Group, Intel Corp; Kate Westervelt, founder and CEO, MOMBOX; Stephanie Conduff, founder and CEO, Leche Lounge; Allison Conti, founder and CEO, Watkins Conti-Product; and Kezia Williams, CEO, Black upStart.

Panel discussions will focus on the impacts of women in finance, economic empowerment, cyber security, manufacturing, aerospace and social good. Speakers include: Dana Weber, CEO, Webco Industries; Caron Lawhorn, SVP and CFO, ONEGAS; Jamie Mayes, SVP, Bank of America Merrill Lynch; Cherie Humphries, VP and General Manager, Williams; Rose Gamble, associate dean for research and academic affairs, College of Engineering and Natural Sciences, University of Tulsa; Monica Baker, manufacturing engineering and maintenance manager, PACCAR Winch; and Tammy Torkleson, president and CEO, Indigo Technology Group.

Several workshops designed to provide hands-on resources for women working in STEM and/or entrepreneurship will be offered, including: How to Negotiate Your Worth; How to Promote Your Business on Social Media; Quick Tips and Tricks on Design and Marketing; How to Get Funding for Your Tech Startup; and Data Driven Team Building. Attendees also will have the opportunity to connect to people and resources needed to grow professionally. A poster presentation for researchers in STEM to share their work with leaders from around the state is also slated.

The conference is hosted by the Oklahoma Catalyst Programs, an office of the Tom Love Innovation Hub at the University of Oklahoma, and is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology and the United States Small Business Administration.
